Role of a Mentor

"Mentors guide and inspire the next generation of XR professionals"

As a mentor in the GRACE Joint-Master programme, you serve as a guide, supporter, and industry expert, playing a crucial role in students’ academic and professional growth.

Your key responsibilities

  • Support students in defining their project goals and navigating challenges.
  • Provide expert advice on technical, creative, or professional aspects of their projects.
  • Offer feedback on project progress during at least three contact sessions per semester.
  • Foster an open, collaborative, and inspiring environment for innovation.
  • Encourage students to reflect on their work and its real-world applications.

Mentors are instrumental in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience, enabling students to excel in their Path to Reality module.

Expectations and Commitments

Mentorship in the GRACE Joint-Master programme is a rewarding experience that requires dedication and collaboration. As a mentor, you are expected to:

The Mentorship Journey

Mentorship in the GRACE Joint-Master programme is a dynamic and rewarding process, structured to guide students through their Path to Reality module over four semesters. As a mentor, you will play a key role at every stage of this journey.

  • Students begin by identifying project topics and defining objectives.
  • Mentors help students formulate a project plan and provide feedback on early ideas.
  • Key deliverables include the Exposé, outlining the project’s scope and direction.
  • Focus shifts to low-fidelity prototypes, where concepts take shape.
  • Mentors support students in testing ideas and refining their approach based on feedback.
  • Students reflect on their progress and prepare for the next development stage.
  • Students produce advanced prototypes, incorporating technical and creative improvements.
  • Mentors assist in aligning prototypes with real-world applications and industry standards.
  • Collaboration intensifies as students prepare for final evaluations.
  • Students finalise their projects and write their master’s thesis.
  • Mentors provide critical guidance during the final stages, including preparation for thesis defence.

Supporting mentors is a priority for the GRACE Joint-Master programme. While we currently offer introductory resources and guidance, we are excited to announce that a comprehensive mentorship training programme is under development.
