Introducing Dr. Daniela De Angeli
- Date April 1, 2025
We’re delighted to introduce Dr. Daniela De Angeli, who brings over 15 years of creative and research experience to the GRACE team. With a passion for immersive media and social impact, Daniela joins our team as Professor in Immersive Media Technologies —and we couldn’t be more excited! Daniela brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and dedication to GRACE.
From Research to Real-World Impact
Daniela earned her Master’s degree in Media Arts and Computer Science from New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) and went on to complete an Engineering Doctorate from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath. Her doctoral research focused on gamified museum experiences and was conducted in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Entertainment and the UK’s National Trust.
Before joining GRACE, Daniela served as a Lecturer and Director of Studies at the University of Bath. Her current research, which focuses on leveraging technology for social good, has been widely recognised and published in venues such as CHI, the International Conference on the Foundations of Digital Games, MuseWeb Conference, Curator – The Museum Journal, the Journal of Inclusive Museum, ACM Journal on Computing and Cultural Heritage, and Acta Ludologica Journal.
One of Daniela’s passions is making technology accessible and engaging through hands-on, creative processes. Bringing Games and Museums to Life
Daniela has designed and evaluated interactive experiences for multiple purposes, from health training to education. Her work is interdisciplinary, spanning across the fields of media arts, human-computer interaction, AI, and museum and memory studies. Her creative projects range from augmented and virtual reality applications to games, and interactive museum installations.
She created her first game in 2009 and since then, she designed games and extended reality experiences for a variety of purposes and organisations, including the Santa Fe Children’s Museum, the Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Gurdon Institute, the National Trust UK and the Mexico History Museum in the USA.
Daniela is also the co-founder and creative director of Echo Games CIC, a community interest company dedicated to developing games and interactive experiences for social good.
“Immersive experiences go beyond mere engagement—they actively involve users, empowering them to make choices, connect with others, and critically reflect on their actions. This is why GRACE will not only provide the tools but also inspire students to create XR experiences that matter to the world.”
— Dr. Daniela De Angeli

At GRACE, Daniela will be instrumental in shaping the future of immersive media education and research. Her expertise and innovative approach will undoubtedly inspire and empower our students to tackle real-world challenges through gamified reality applications. We are excited to see the incredible contributions she will make to our academic community and beyond.
